A visit down memory road

Last weekend my family and I went to visit friends and family in Chicago. It was our first trip back as a family in a couple of years and it was great to be back in such a special place. We stayed with some friends who live in Lincoln Park only two short blocks away from our church on Southport. I had to walk by it and take some photos, trying to remember that very special day years ago.

Over 12 years ago, we got married there on a bright sunny day in July. It was one of the best days of my life and felt like a fairytale all day long. I will never forget the words spoken by Father Grassi. As we stood there, young and eager to face the world he reminded us to always embrace our lives and take time to focus on our love. For time will take ahold of you and before you know it, pass you by.

As I look back 12 years later, I realize indeed how true his words of wisdom are. We are busy raising a family and time has gone on high speed. Next month my little babies will turn 6 and 8 and we will have lived in Minneapolis for 12 years.

Life can get so insanely busy and it is easy to become overwhelmed by it all. So today I’m stepping back and remembering his words of wisdom and will try to reflect. I will hug my kids a little harder and perhaps make a special dinner for my loving husband Paul. I will stop to smell the roses and smile. What a wonderful world!

Where it all began….St. Josaphat Church. Chicago, Illinois.
